Real Madrid brought to an end a seven-game winless run in El Clasico with a 2-0 victory over rivals Barcelona at Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday’s clash. Real Madrid showed their character by silencing Barcelona to move to the top of Laliga table.

Brazilian lethal teenager Vinicius Jr scored the opener in the 71st minute with a strike that deflected off Gerard Pique, displacing goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen who had made some jaw-dropping saves, and substitute Mariano Diaz added the second in added time.

Real Madrid was previously defeated by Levante in La Liga and Manchester City in the Champions League over the past few weeks but after a tame first half they overwhelmed giants Barcelona with a superb display, with several goal attempts on numerous occasions before breaking the deadlock.

Zinedine Zidane’s side Real Madrid now leads the standings on 56 points after 26 games, with Barcelona aka Barca slipping to second spot on 55 points with equal matches played.
