Tanzania’s Constitutional And Legal Affairs Minister Augustine Mahiga Dies After Short Illness

Tanzanians are in mourning after Constitutional and Affairs minister, Dr. Augustine Mahiga died after a short illness. Tanzania’s Director of communications announced the passing away of Mahiga on Friday morning, 1 May 2020.

The statement said that the minister died suddenly at his home in Dodoma; “By the time he was taken to the hospital he had passed away”. The statement read. President John Pombe Magufuli also confirmed that the 74-year-old died while on his way to the hospital.

Magufuli has sent condolences to the grieving family of the late Mahiga and the parliament describing him as a humble man.

“Despite all the government positions he held, he remained a humble person in his life,” President Magufuli said in his statement.

The late Mahiga served as Tanzania’s 14th Minister for Foreign Affairs between 2015-2019. He also served as the Permanent Representative of Tanzania to the United Nations from the year 2003 to 2010and as a United Nations representative and Head of the UN Political Office for Somalia from 2010 to 2013
