Telegram instant messaging app has reached 400 million active users mark up from 300 million last year.
Telegram also reported that everyday single day at least 1.5 million new users sign up for the messaging app making it the most downloaded social media application in over 20 countries.
Great features such as folders, cloud storage, and desktop support have largely made Telegram extremely useful for remote work and study during this Coronavirus pandemic.
The company has also announced that it is working on bringing up a secure video call feature to its users this year (2020) in response to the growing popularity of Zoom, Houseparty, and other popular messaging apps like WhatsApp.
“As the gap in popularity between Telegram and its older competitors narrows, we find more and more validity in that original assumption,” the said on its website.

Telegram also announced that it will be offering money to creators. They are offering €400,000 to creators of the educational test.
“With 2 billion students currently away from schools, the world is in dire need of online educational tools. We’d like to contribute to solving this problem by creating a database of educational tests for all subjects and levels. To do that, today we’re announcing a crowdsourcing initiative in which we will distribute EUR 400,000 among creators of educational tests”. A statement from the Telegram read.
To take part in the educational test, the users need to use @QuizBot to create and publish an original educational test on any subject at any difficulty level, in any language.
The quizzes submitted in a searchable directory will be published and the winners announce based on quality and popularity. The first submission stage will end on May 15 this year.
The company also announced that it has a new sticker directory, where users can browse and search the over 20,000 high-quality free Telegram stickers created in the last 5 years.
